Dear Diary,
Over the weekend I watched Phat Girlz (2006) starring comedian Mo'Nique which was perfect prequel to my plus size weekend and before the season finale of House of Curves.
Its the story of a plus size sales clerk named Jazmin Bilmore who like most full figured women, find it hard to find affordable, stylish clothes. She designs and sews most of her own clothes. A lot of her stresses come from her jack ass boss who denies her the chance to talk to their store's head buyer about her sketches and they lack of style in their plus size department. Her cousin who is a smaller woman spend a lot of time in the gym and eating healthy organic food, presses Jazmin about working out and sticking to her diet.
She goes to apply for loan to get the start up money for her clothing line but is denied due to lack of collateral. She confesses to the banker that if she got the loan she could help solve a lot of plus size women's problem and possibly get a date. He told her that the loan wouldn't help but that she should try Jenny Craig. She also deals with the taunting and stereo types of being a bigger person out in restaurants, work and the pool.
Jazmin wins a trip to Palms Springs, Florida where she meets a nice, handsome name from Nigeria named Tunde' who loves plus size women. Her cousin is not too thrilled about not getting the attention she is used to getting from American men. Tunde' uses the term "Thick Madame" to describe Jazmin, they don't use the word "fat". The one guy asks Jazmin's shy friend why does she wear such bulky clothing with a beautiful figure. She says because with her size she should stay covered. He makes her blush and says "if it were up to me you would never wear clothes."
Later Jazmin faces her insecurities and finally realizes that she's been
holding herself back from her dreams, goals, and love. She has a break through and discovers her self love. She stands in front of the mirror naked and says " I love me. I am beautiful." She finally gets her chance to talk with the head buyer of her department store and shows him her sketch book. He helps her launch her plus size clothing line "Thick Madame" and takes her national in a year.
At the end Jazmin and her crew take a trip to Nigeria to meet with Tunde' to apologize and thank him for helping her see what he saw in her. And they lived happily ever after. Lol.
This movie was my inspiration to tighten up on my skill and fully launch my brand House of Baboski and my plus size line Lusciou Ladies. In stores now : D
THE PLUS SIZE TAKE OVER IS IN FULL EFFECT!!!
